not on here much anymore but made my night stumbling on this thread. Of the total 1230' of vertical, the top 900-1000' are steep, with no snow making or grooming, and lots of bumps, rocks, stumps, logs and trees. He seems to be trying to keep the character that makes this place special, while putting in upgrades and modernization that will make it financially viable.īut this season the real emphasis is making the pomas reliable and, since they limit *who* can get to the top (intermediates and below need not apply), that works for me! The high-speed, detachable pomas (especially the one that goes up Winfall) launch you on take off (10-15') and really fly up the mountain. He has already poured a good chunk of cash into the place and intends to continue to do so over the coming years. The shareholders decided to take on a partner who now has a controlling interest in the mountain (Bill Van Pelt). Each work day gets me credit towards my season pass and what better place to spend a beautiful fall day than on a mountain in the Adirondacks? There was 4+ years of sapling and bramble growth to take down (not to mention "secret stash" maintenance), but we had some good work crews and the mountain looks better than ever. But I have spent a day each of the last 6 weekends clearing brush and getting the trails ready. While *technically* I own a piece of the place (I have the family stock share from 30 years ago that you needed to buy to get vouchers for work days), I don't represent the mountain management.
